≪Extensive Reading Program @ Tohoku University≫
The Extensive Reading @ Tohoku University project was started in 2009 by
an English teacher in the Center for the Advancement of Higher Education.
It currently has two main areas of activity:
1. Extensive Reading Classes (Eigo A1, Eigo A2, Eigo C1R, and Eigo C2R)
These are currently taught by five CAHE teachers using a common curriculum.
2. Support for Extensive Reading
In order to promote extensive reading among Tohoku University students
and staff, as well as members of the general public, various resources
have been set up.
These include:
– the Readers Corner in the Tohoku University Library currently has
over 4,000 books
– the Readers website
– various seminars and events to explain and promote extensive reading
We are currently recruiting full-time and part-time teachers to start
using extensive reading in Eigo A1 or Eigo A2 classes at Tohoku
University for the 2013-14 academic year.
The Project will provide guidance, a class set of readers, and a sample
curriculum for teachers to use.
