概要:
International exposure has become increasingly important for young scientists because global experience in networking and research is a key skill set required for capable team-based researchers who aim to work in either the academic or industry sectors. Tohoku University itself is a leader in this area because of the internationally focused “Future Global Leadership” program, which attracts students from overseas for undergraduate and/or graduate degrees taught in English. The program creates opportunities not only for these international students to pursue advanced scientific studies and research, but also for students in the conventional Japanese program to interact with international students and share knowledge, culture, ideas, etc. In my own research, I have observed firsthand the effects of teaching both Japanese and International students laboratory and research techniques. The interactions help both students prepare for a future requiring strong interpersonal skills, research ability, and a diverse background. In this presentation, I will discuss how the international program helps to propel research projects through collaboration between students with diverse backgrounds.
