Learn by doing

I do research in the overlapping fields of Educational Psychology and Positive psychology. This research is mainly focused on motivation and identity. I also do research on language skills and sub-skills. This research is mainly focused on achievement and assessment.

Motivation and identity are especially important for language students because it takes much time and effort to learn a language. Motivation and identity for language studies are also important for your future studies, study abroad, service learning, and lifelong learning. Language assessment is important for feedback and for students to see progress. This creates a cycle of growing progress, motivation, and identity. For teachers, assessment is essential for: language program and curriculum design, materials creation, and learner diagnostics and achievements.

My advice to students is to make the most of your education. It is important to be involved in your own learning, you need to be active learners, and to express your own unique identity. Being an active learner makes learning more interesting and motivating. Ask questions, make friends, share ideas, and express yourself and you will learn more. Be curious, be hopeful, and be friendly to develop you individual and social competences.
